In my opinion, this is one of my all-time favorite music videos. I've never seen it until today. Little did I know that this is one of the videos that was the reason why my parents were so 'anti-Madonna' and told me how bad of an influence she was when I was still a young child. I understand that she altered the video (although the alternate is boring as hell) for the circumstances of the time, but the message hear is brilliant. They were and still are supporters of Fox News, so no wonder they hated her.
I love this video and I still remember watching it on my local MTV for just one day. It was never played again.
I hate the fact that Madonna herself boycotted it after the Dixie Chicks incident. She should have been braver, she's Madonna.
I hate the video personally because it's really heavy handed and tacky and TOO on the nose for her message at times. I doubly hate it because it was the first time Madonna ever intentionally shied away from controversy and she has literally never been the same since. I hate it.
The song is kind of trash as well, I love the meta/ironic rap verse, however. The whole song is too disjointed and shrill to enjoy it. "Hollywood" is so much better. In both regards.

the unedited version of American Life is seriously one of my favorite videos of all time. It's insanely powerful. The whole album is an underrated masterpiece tbh. It's either my favorite or 2nd favorite Madonna album (choosing between that and Ray of Light is hard).
Where can I see the ORIGINAL video? I've seen the director's cut and the flag version. The original one actually had Madonna throwing the grenade to a look-alike of Bush, the grenade changes to a cigarette-lighter and he uses it to light his cigar. Or was that never released?

Hmmm, I just did a search for it, but can't seem to find it in any of the usual places (youtube, vimeo, dailymotion...) Maybe they've had it taken down for some reason?

I have that on DVD. .. found it on a website that had all the American Life promos and videos. This version also shows people crawling on the runway with blown up legs . VERY POWERFUL IMAGERY
