I'm all for a new connection for new earphones. We should update the earphone jack. However, making the lightning port fill that void is the dumbest idea I've ever heard... Apple, don't do this.

They're simply taking advantage of the Lightning connector, allowing higher quality audio output and tapping into the iPhone's battery power for headphones such as Beats that are battery powered. It's a great step forward for audiophiles, but they would obviously not remove the headphone jack.

The Lightning connector is fine but the headphone jack? No ****ing way.

The worst part is that Lightning connectors are literally the most unreliable, finicky and overly complicated form of connection since the NES when you had to blow on the damn cartridge to make it work.

But where does it say the 3.5mm jack won't be on the iPhone 6? Oh yeah... it DOESN'T. Just that they're allowing manufacturers to take advantage of the Lightning port because it allows BETTER sound quality.

I was talking about the "damage control" you were doing. Stating that the Yahoo article is different than the Macrumors one when it basically states the same thing.

Why are you bringing up Macrumors though? I never did?

The only source I brought up was Apple Insider, the article that the Yahoo article quoted, and Apple Insider literally said the iPhone 6 is expected to have a 3.5mm jack.

Keyword: COULD. It's a known fact that removing the jack would allow them to make it thinner. That's been discussed long before this new technology was announced.

Will it happen in the future? Probably, but Apple won't be the only one pushing for change. If the 3.5mm headphone jack is the limiting part in the phone manufacturing process when it comes to thickness, it will have to be eliminated eventually because everything will be thinner in the future. TOSLINK could be the next standard since it's thin and carries digital audio, or there could be an entire new standard created. But it's highly doubtful that Apple would remove the 3.5mm jack unless they had a truly better solution.

Better to have headphones I like for that much than to spent it on a tacky, overrated, pretentious iPhone. But you can stay manning a sinking ship with it.

Lucky me, I have real, audiophile grade headphones (Denon AH-D2000 in case you want to buy headphones that aren't a fashion accessory) and the highest quality phone on the market, iPhone 5s!

They ARE NOT removing the headphone jack, they are USING LIGHTNING for audio as well.

I just SAID that it would be a BAD idea. Where did I say that? I just said that the Macrumors article posted is basically the same as the Yahoo one. All I am saying is that they're integrating this sometime in the future. All my posts were about how ditching the headphone jack will be horrific. Never said they would but I never said they wouldn't as well.

We all know this idea had summoned a lot of fumes in your head. It is a bad idea and 99% of ATRL agrees with my opinion. I know inside, you do too.
