Back when I was a stupid teenager (~14) I said "retarded" like many others, without even realizing why that's wrong. A friend of mine (who I later learned has a brother with DS) pointed this out to me and requested that I not say it again. I haven't negatively said "retarded" once since then, not even in a fit of rage. IF you actually care about something, you are conscious of what you say! A 30 y/o "activist" in the public eye should be able to control his tongue.
What it comes down to is that you all either like Jonah, or you just don't have any strong feelings on him so you don't care either way. If someone like Madonna or Gaga had said this (also LGBT activists, but with much more dramatic supporters and detractors), you'd all be destroying them.

But why complain about hypocrisy where most people are acting like mature adults? This complaint would be 100% accurate in said thread where Madonna or Gaga made this statement, but here it's just like you're complaining that the thread isn't a messy free for all with everyone throwing insults according to their fan alignments rather than the reality behind it all.
This is how topics like this should be approached; he made a mistake, he apologised, he was a bit of an idiot, whatever lets move on with life. Not everyone can be a flawless saint, 99% of people are idiots in the heat of the moment and there's very little we can do about that. We shouldn't be automatically offended by the use of a word, the thoughts and intentions of it should be what matters - do you honestly believe he was attacking the paparazzi for being a homosexual or was he just using a general common insult?
I'd personally not consider this word any worse than any other curse word unless it's being used to directly attack a persons homosexuality, and I don't even mean calling a gay man it, the intention behind the use -must- be to attack someone for being gay. If it's used interchangeably with words such as Bastard or **** then I don't see the issue tbh.

Obviously I know not everyone feels this way and understand the need for him to apologise, but I see no reason to reject his apology and continue to attack him with no real goal.
