Is Apple being smart by allowing people to add third-party features to iOS?

It means Apple can have some features that people have on other OS's, without Apple having to worry about whether they stole the ideas themselves.

People will just make them available, and Apple benifits all around.

I am a long android advocate and have owned every Nexus phone put out by Google and this is the first time I feel tempted to buy the next iPhone upon release. Though there are still things I think Android does far better than iOS With iOS 8 Apple fixed the bigger problems that really made me irritated when using iOS as opposed to Android.

iOS 7 was a needed update in terms of visuals but iOS 8 is far more important as it really changed and added the stuff that really mattered to me and stopped me from using the OS.

That's nice for all the people who use iOS who have been wanting that stuff I guess.

I really couldn't care less since I like my phone to be clean and simple, which Apple already provides, but if it brings more customers then hey...

Not really. They aren't adding these features to the OS. They are just making them accepted.

iOS is a simple and clean OS. Apple were never going to add custom keyboards, widgets etc. unless they were third party. And it took them a while to go third party especially when ios is still a walled OS. It's hard to balance the two.

Anyways, yes it's a smart move. When I had an iPhone I always wanted the Flexsy keyboard.

In some ways. I'm not here for people with tacky taste changing their keyboards to all types of ugly designs like android users do.
