This is a damn good song. I don't know how people can say this isn't the same line instrumentally/vocally/lyrically as Hybrid Theory and Meteora. It would have fit perfectly back then.
Let me hear this. Damn. Wastelands has that hard rock pumping sound that I can bang my head to. This sorta sounds like it could’ve been on Living Things given the way Mike’s rapping echoes with the music and Chester sings similar of what fits the Living Things vibe. Overall, it’s a good song to get pumped up along with the words of Mike and Chester getting to you and feel the problems of the world comparing to be like a wasteland. Good approach to get have that force to really get things across. Put it this away, the hard sound can be apart of their earlier works while the lyrics and vocals can reflect their work. A little of both worlds put together in this simple song.
