I think several factors contributed to it... the movie has a name that doesn't stand out and isn't easy to remember, Western movies (even parodies) are not popular (see the Spanish one Will Ferrel made last year and the Lone Ranger), and I don't think this film was well promoted (might not mean much, but many people I spoke with had never heard of it).

It's a shame because it's a good movie, it's funny and Seth and Charlize do a great job. A little long, but worth watching.

Very funny movie, but I think they knew it wouldn't be a blockbuster. Charlize and Seth were in an ad for the movie on Adult Swim and she mentioned if the movie bombed it was all on Seth. Jokingly of course.

If you open your film between May-August as a wide release, you're still hoping for more than $17 million

However, I like Charlize and she's great actress. She, exactly as the OP stated, needs to pick better movies and it's obvious she just does not have the star power Angie has

This movie looked terrible. I am amazed the same people behind Ted did this.

To be fair that movie looked awful.

As much as I respect Charlize and Amanda Seyfried, who were both in the movie: clap3: because it looked horrible and basic.

Third place isn't that much of a flop though, but compared to the other two
