I have written whole essays on Cinemascore and what a worthless metric it is, and I don't feel like going into it again too deeply.
You just have to look at their track record to know they are a joke. Some of the greatest classics of all time have gotten horrible Cinemascores. While some of the most vile trash every produced have scored A's.
They have such a small sample size as to make the metric incomprehensible and irrelevant
(Note. This is an attack on Cinemascore. Not Maleficient.)
Now, it doesn't matter how good a campaign "Maleficent" has, the movie will be a mess, and critics will pan it. It will probably get a C+ score at best.I'll promise you that.
It's aesthetically pleasing and all, but it was a bit of a bore. I literally caught myself dozing off. I felt as though their target audience was mainly just Angie fans. It's not for kids, and it's hardly for adults... Like IDK what they were going for as a Disney Movie. It's kind of forgettable.
I was so disappointed with this movie. It definitely completely veered WAY off the original, and in the trailer and previews were absolutely misleading. None of my friends liked it, we were all kind of pissed how the movie played out.
