Ageism has torn down Madonna? How so? Because she certainly doesn't act like she gives a **** about what others think. Her albums and tours aren't flopping because she's too old. She's always been under scrutiny for not acting "appropriately", from the very beginning of her career. She courts controversy.

Mariah has been the butt of "she acts too young" jokes for well over a decade now. I don't think she cares either, but it comes off as more desperate because unlike Madonna this isn't the image she's always had throughout her career, plus her brand of sexy oftentimes looks more juvenile than sophisticated. So people just see it as desperately hanging on to her youth rather than just being her typical, unconventional self.

I love her image during the Butterfly era, mainly because she was both sexy and sophisticated. But ever since then, she's been a bit over the top, like she's compensating for her lost years.
