This is pure and utter nonsense. You can't just multiply the sales by three, there's literally no basis for it. The sales vary from week to week, and include spikes and dips. When you just multiply the first 6 months you are assuming it will sell the same amount in the next 6 months, and the next 6 months after that. Which isn't true at all considering the sales are DECLINING because the console had it's highest sales close to it's release.
Think of it like this, with your logic, you would be predicting that an album that opened with sales of 500k first week would sell 1.5 million by it's 3rd week because you multiplied by 3. But we know that's not true because it's not going to sell 500k in it's 2nd and 3rd weeks.
The way it's done in the OP is the correct and logical way to compare sales - by comparing the first x number of weeks for both consoles. And it's easy to see that the PS4 is falling behind, with a gap large enough that can't be explained away by release timing. Poor it.
PS4 is still selling more than the One and the U combined.
