With PS3 making its way out of the market, Vita bombing worldwide and losses of more than 1 billion dollars, I think it's time for us to pray for our good sis Sony.

There is a pretty simple answer to this. Japan loves Japanese games.
Once games from the likes of Japan Studio get released, the PS4 will pick up. Like the PS3 did.

Heck Japanese games even helped the PS Vita outsell nearly every console for one week at one point.
It's why the Wii U is doing somewhat well over there and why the X-Box consoles always bomb.

The PS4 has sold 581k in six months. If you times 581k times 3 (for an 18 month number) you get 1.7M.

So basically the PS4 is doing just as well as the Wii U did, with less Japanese orientated games.

This is pure and utter nonsense. You can't just multiply the sales by three, there's literally no basis for it. The sales vary from week to week, and include spikes and dips. When you just multiply the first 6 months you are assuming it will sell the same amount in the next 6 months, and the next 6 months after that. Which isn't true at all considering the sales are DECLINING because the console had it's highest sales close to it's release.

Think of it like this, with your logic, you would be predicting that an album that opened with sales of 500k first week would sell 1.5 million by it's 3rd week because you multiplied by 3. But we know that's not true because it's not going to sell 500k in it's 2nd and 3rd weeks.

The way it's done in the OP is the correct and logical way to compare sales - by comparing the first x number of weeks for both consoles. And it's easy to see that the PS4 is falling behind, with a gap large enough that can't be explained away by release timing. Poor it.
