And yes, lesbians are given an easier time than gay men for a plethora of reasons, a lot of them stemming ultimately from misogyny and gay men opposing the patriarchal narrative of "what it means to be a man" and blah blah. But who cares? It's not a competition.

I didn't realize this was "controversial"

What do you think?

I for one like to think of the LGBT community being all encompassing, but if you'd like to divide it because of your predispositions about a certain faction of that community, then, by all means, go ahead.

I agree, but I've been to LGBT groups and some of them seem to sort of separate themselves from white gay guys. One of them even said they couldn't watch Queer As Folk because there was no diversity. But I'll wait to be attacked more.

I think it's the media who does this. Gays are always shown as a white adult male, with a flamboyant attitude, a thing for fashion, and has plenty of female and flamboyant white male friends.
While men of other races are shown in a thuggish, asexual, or idiotic. While females are the sexual objects of men.
It's very similar to the feminist groups, and how women of color are having a hard time being apart of that group. It's always a white verses other issue.

By grouping together "everybody else", you're othering everybody that isn't white But yes, I'm embarrassed to be white when I think about the ignorant **** some white gay guys say. The number of transphobic gay guys I've met is horrifying

I read your OP thinking it was directed towards the "white gay guys", but my comment below applies to this somewhat, as well. I just don't understand or agree with the long term goals of anyone who would want to split up the group from within when there is already such a large amount of opposition to be faced as is.

I understand the implications of media, and I think that's why self-determined unity is so important. In a world so eager to divide a group through means such as those you mentioned, it is our duty to stay connected.

Not when the whole RPDR mess exposed the gays and their transphobia.

No. Both "parties" (and I put that in quotes as those are two pretty loose and general groups you have there) are wrong if they neglect to acknowledge the struggles of the other, worse or not. We all want equality for everyone, cis, white, gay or otherwise. It's not about which subsets of minority groups can find acceptance faster or anything - it's all or nothing and if anyone thinks otherwise (such as some random cis white gay guy believing his fight is done when he's personally comfortable) then they're wrong.

It's the condition of one's gender identity matching that which society expects of their biological sex; it's short for "cisgender".

Exactly!! If we can't agree that we're all in this together for equality, what progress will we make? Splitting what we perceive to be the most well-off and largest group from the whole is actually counterproductive - it will just encourage media and society to normalize just that one group and still ignore the rights deserved by and hardships faced by other LGBTQIA+ groups.
