In that way they become "interpretors" in their own right, putting their own "emotional insights" and "nuances" into their performances.
But it's obvious nothing I can say will change your opinion, and that's fine. You haven't changed mine either.

Oh, I'm not talking about pop stars at all. I'm talking about the irrevocably bland
Leona Lewis, she who doesn't step into a recording booth without thinking about how Whitney/Mariah/Celine/Christina would sing a song, and therefore "emulate" it.
I'm the biggest pop music supporter/promoter on this board! Ask anyone who knows. And of course pop singers can be more than singers, even if they don't play instruments or write music notations. I think that Kylie, in particular is second to Donna Summer as the pop star most skilled at the art of intepretation - she gets the meaning of almost EVERY song she sings (although that's missing severely on X, and that's one of the reasons the album's her weakest.) I think that Britney, Madonna, etc and so on all have ranges of interpretative power - who else could've sold a
Gimme More or a
Borderline so effectively? Please don't take me as disrespecting pop music - I would never do that. I'm just disrespecting the utterly useless Leona Lewis.
