It still makes no sense to me though. Like, who exactly is benefitting enough from it to be so concerned? Record labels? This is funded by the public, right? Look at publicly funded PBS here in the U.S. - I can't imagine them suddenly deciding reruns of Keeping Up Appearances or a documentary on the dust bowl aren't ~cool and fun~ enough appeal to a younger demo.

BBC Radio has a range of channels, each that cater to difference audiences, 1 is meant to be aimed at young people, 2 is slightly older, 3 is arts and culture, 4 is current affairs & drama etc etc

BBC is publically funded, with those funds they set up different avenues for different niches

in the same stroke, BBC 2 would be ageist for not playing 'young' music

Luckily not, here in Belgium we can keep 80s and 90s electronic music spinning as "retro" at a station with a school going demographic.

Radio stations I heard in my car in London can be narrow minded like having a playlist almost only made of Katy and Rihanna songs.

Ok, that actually makes sense. Though I still think blacklisting someone from the Radio 1 (which seems to be top 40) after a certain age is ridiculous. I mean isn't Pharrell over 40 now? Are they going to start ignoring him now? It's not like it's Radio Disney.
