Is this a bad thing? Surely every radio station has an audience that they cater to..is it ageist if Classic Hits doesn't play music by young artists?

Well Radio 1 isn't playing these artists because they've hit a certain age despite playing them before, so what they're doing is ageist. Look at what they did to Robbie Williams.

Yeah I agree the Robbie Williams thing is a bit toooo much, I'm 18 and I still bop to his tunes. Completely ignoring pop songs in the Top 40 just because the artist is a certain age does seem a bit childish. Idk

WTF. Then why are they so concerned about the demos? This type of demographic bs only makes sense if there are advertisers involved.

Because media outlets are tools of control, social engineering and indoctrination of the masses and it's better to catch them young. Much more easier to influence and much more pervasive the influence if they start as young as possible.

Wait I'm a little lost, say Katy stays making the same music she does now, which caters to teens and early 20's, for another 10 years, so then she'll be 39 with the same demo as Radio 1, but because she's 39 they won't play her or what?

BBC is funded by tax-payers, it's demographic is basically everyone. It's supposed to be a public service, not cater to teen music. Refusing to play an artist because of their age is ridiculous, they should be judging on the quality of music not the persons age.

Anyway the BBC song selection process has always been trash. They're very biased. Just look at what they did to Alexandra Burke, she had radio-friendly dance music, they refused to play her because a few years ago she got into an argument with one of their interviewers. This subsequently ended her career and made her era flop.

They need to be regulated better.

Nothing says "young" like a bunch of 40-50 year old executives deciding what the kids like.

Maybe this is why Katy is not being allowed to evolve and be more mature musically. If all stations are like this then her label knows it and wants her to keep making the kind of music and videos that fit the accepted demos.
