Love those two songs, but they were not the respective debut singles for Whitney and Toni. Before SAMLFY, Whitney released a just-OK flop called "Thinking About You" and followed it with the flawless "You Give Good Love" (#3 on the pop charts and #1 R&B). Toni was part of a duet with Babyface called "Give U My Heart".
Also, Sade's "Smooth Operator" was preceded by "Your Love Is King" in the UK and "Hang On to Your Love" in the U.S.
