He's an idiot. The penalty is a bit extreme (he should've just been disqualified from his current sittings, not future ones

The 5 year ban is true.

Being from the UK, whenever you do official exams you're basically warned to the bone about not having *anything* on you that you don't need - i.e. pens/pencils, ruler, eraser, calculator etc.

If you're caught with *anything* else on you then you're automatically disqualified and it's a potential that you can be banned for 5 years from taking exams from that exam board, though other exam boards are notified and they're able to enforce the same penalty if they please (which they usually do).
