No. The EU has several different countries of about the same size and population allowing a decent balance of power and even then nowadays it tends to be dominated by Germany for economic reasons. A North American Union would basically be the US and everyone else.
That would be pointless because they really don't need one
Especially seeing how one country in North America is completely desperate to keep people from another country in North America from getting in. An arrangement like the EU means things like free movement of labour
But it would still be pointless

Exactly. The U.S. would dominate the affairs of the union, and it simply makes no sense to have a country like the U.S. in a union with one like Nicaragua/El Salvador etc. Too much disparity.
The US essentially is a union already, the states' function in regards to the Republic is basically the same as each individual European country and the Union as a whole.

States have less autonomy than sovereign European nations, though.
I don't see why it would do that when it left the EU in the first place. (But is still somewhat associated due to being a possession of Denmark and it's own agreements)

Well yes, because they're not sovereign nations. I was just talking about in regards to day to day functions, it's sort of an analogous relationship. Loose, but the closest the US will ever come to a Union.
