As promised, Nicki Minaj comes through with the first official single from her third studio album The Pinkprint, "Pills N Potions." On Monday we received the cover art and a few words about the record from Nicki, she called it "uplifting" and "soulful." Indeed, it's a very different direction than "ChiRaq", more pop-driven and definitely radio friendly, with Nicki singing about bad habits (pills and potions) as she reflects on love lost.

What do you think of it? It was produced by Dr. Luke and co-written by Ester Dean.

The Pinkprint is scheduled to drop later this year.

Over the past few weeks, Nicki Minaj has promised that she would return to her hip hop roots and strip away some of the pop exterior that helped her crossover, on her new album The Pinkprint. With her recent singles “Yass B*tch Yass” and “Chiraq”, it definitely seemed that she was on that path, trading in her pink wig for darker street anthems. However, her latest song is a complete one hundred and eighty degree turn back to what made her famous. “Pills N Potions” finds Ms. Minaj singing for majority of the track, with familiar chords and harmonies running throughout. It is straight pop, with some sprinklings of rap here or there. However, that doesn’t take away from it’s composition and it actual ends up being quite enjoyable. Get ready to hear this song everywhere, and make room for its infectious hook in your head right away.

Lyrics include: “Pills n potions, we're overdosing, I'm angry but I still love you/Pills n potions, we're overdosing, can't stand it but I still love you,” and “People will love you and support you when it's beneficial, I'mma forgive you, I won't forget, but I'mma dead the issue.”

The lines reflect Nicki's recent explanation of the track, which has been produced by Dr. Luke and written by Ester Dean, revealing it's a story of “love,” “urgency” and “betrayal.”

Fans couldn't be happier with the new, chilled out Nicki, with @flossynigga commenting: “You really outdid yourself @NICKIMINAJ this one is for the books,” and @SHENEL_MINAJ dramatically revealing: “Im just naturally rolling around on the floor crying. #PillsNPotions.”

'Pills N Potions' will feature on Nicki's third album 'The Pink Print' which is expected for release before the end of the year.

After rapping her ass off on recent for-the-internet-heads tracks like “Chi-Raq” and “Yasss Bish!!,” Nicki Minaj has gone back to widescreen down-the-middle pop music on her new single “Pills N Potions.” But if she has to make pop music, best that she make pop music like this. Top 40 overlord Dr. Luke produced “Pills N Potions,” the first single on Nicki’s forthcoming album The Pink Print, and it’s a graceful and personal piece of work. Nicki Minaj's latest single, "Pills N Potion" – a track that will appear on her forthcoming LP The Pink Print – comes off as the diametric opposite to her previous single, "Lookin Ass N---a." Where the latter was an invective directed at gawkers checking her out and the video found her literally gunning down one offender, the piano rap ballad "Pills N Potion" finds her sublimely (and maturely) rising above her detractors, even singing that she still loves them. More surprising: "[People] swearin' on the Bible that they love you but they're no different from all your rivals/ but I don't wish death on 'em, I just reflect on 'em."
