Lisa Robinson wrote a book about all the different people she has met and interviewed over the entirety of her career and she has a chapter about Gaga. Here's an excerpt:
Quote:
"It's always nice when you meet someone that you revered your whole life, and they are so wonderfully nice." what happens, I asked when you meet somebody you revered your whole life and they turn out to be horrible? "It's devastating," she said. "It's absolutely devastating." I know she was referring to the M word, my nickname for Madonna, who, along with Bowie, Freddie, Lennon, and Spears, Gaga had loved as a child. Madonna had seemed especially petty about 'Born This Way,' claiming, and not quietly, that it sounded like her own 'Express Yourself'. I asked Gaga about the controversy. She was diplomatic. "What I have arrived at as a performer is that you must create what you know is your vision, and execute it exactly as you see it. If someone thinks it's like another artist, or it remind them of something they've seen before, then that's what shall be. It's not my responsibility to teach people how to excavate at and music. It's my purpose to entertain. You expected the comparison? "I anticipated something might occur, and I don't give a ****. People will see what they choose to see. I have never questioned the integrity of my creations. I love what I have made. And to create a stir with a pop song is pretty ****in' exciting, if you ask me."
Aside from the Italian heritage and dyed blonde hair, Gaga was nothing like Madonna. Gaga has a great voice. She can really play the piano. She writes hit songs with undeniably catchy choruses. She is connected with her audience. She is warm.
Remember the lashings we faced when Applause came out?
I wasn't here but I lurked and damn
Then it actually started rising and becoming more and more of a hit, and then it became big on radio and then Geo created that thread exposing everyone. Those were good times.
Bloody Mary has been such a life force this past week. Mm lord, yes, the anthem goes surprisingly well with the drink. One of the few Gaga songs that isn't placed awkwardly in my range.

Just gonna put this here: The artRAVE is her most watered-down tour to date. The monster ball and the born this way ball were 100% better. But, I had a great time. I liked that it was more focused on the music than anything but... I was expecting more.
That's what I ****ing said. And they flayed me alive.
The production on BTW (the album) slays me. Each song was perfection.
The production on BTW is so sloppy and overwrought in places - see Americano, Highway Unicorn (could have absolutely slayed but the production was a disaster).
In general though I'm in love with BTW now, ARTPOP died to let me appreciate album of the decade more
So we have Princess Die and Sire that are confirmed decay songs. Probably White Roses as well. I wish she would go back to this concept, it sounds so good
And now would be a fitting time
