LMAO, get real! MTV makes its choices based on the artist and sometimes on how much successful their songs were, it's been quite a long time since they last gave an award because of the quality of the video.
I'm not saying you're wrong....but I know that the VMAs have been on a downward slope lately in which some cases the performances and appearances sometimes are the bigger story than the nominees themselves.

thats pretty much been the story for a while, esp. the early 2000's shows, the performances always outdid the awards.
Would you go on record and say that those guest appearances were a bigger deal then? I mean let's look at recent years
