I had no idea Coldplay even had a special...why in the world would they put it on the same night as the BBMA's?

regardless of the ratings, the tv special did wonders for the songs and albums off Ghost Stories on itunes

It actually did BETTER in total numbers, and matched last year's demo. This is great considering the lack to star power and proper performances this year

I don't think 1.7 million is particularly bad for that kind of competitive night.

In any case, it should be compared to other TV specials of it's kind.

It wa bad. It aired on a major tv network. Coldplay was on par with Britney's documentary which aired on E! which traditionally, has much lower ratings and is not part of the big four

Sunday night at 7PM isn't a very exposed timeslot, if NBC decided to air the Codplay special there, they probably didn't expect huge ratings
