We all know Katy's team has been a mess at choosing singles this era. Katy said Dark Horse was never meant to be a single. If the singles were released as they were originally planned it would be like Roar, Uncle, Birthday, in other words, hit, underperformance, underperformance. And it could cause the era to lose momentum and **** this era up. But by the grace of god, Dark Horse knew where the era was going and made itself a single to prevent this disaster and saved the Prism era.
It was at the expense of 2 other singles imo, Dark Horse sort of ruined Unconditionally and Birthday because it's all people were focusing on it instead
The only reason uncle underperformed was cause of dark horse
What is "Uncle" ? Seriously.
I've seen this referenced so many times but I don't know what this is.
If I google "Katy Perry Uncle" I get Uncle Kenny or Frank Perry
I like how everyone has themselves so convinced "Dark Horse" is the reason those two singles underperformed. The real reason is people just aren't feeling either song that much, both of them reached top twenty in overall airplay so you can't say people weren't aware of their existence because of "Dark Horse"
What made the last era a success is the diversity of the singles. She needs songs like "Legendary Lovers" and "It Takes Two" to give Prism legs.
The runs of Uncle and Birfday would be different without Dark Horse... I don't know how different, but definitely not the same. It's not an excuse, I don't think Unconditionally connected with the GP like others have said, but you can't deny that with Roar still being huge and Dark Horse being so popular, Uncle didn't stand a chance.
