There's nothing to be confused about. There was never any way to gauge how well the shows were doing and all of the reports about "flopping" were nothing more than mere speculations. If Gaga's team/Livenation and the venues feel the shows are performing well enough that the demand warrants extra dates, then that's all the confirmation we need. They're not going to add extra dates if they'd lose money.
