How many successful people (artists, actors, musicians etc) are fundamentally quite "plain" in appearance? Quite a few. However, it's their driven mind set and determination that makes them stand out from the crowd and get noticed.

i agree but most people are going to pay attention to the non average looking person before they pay attention to the average person with the better personality.
ive expierenced this bias first hand, between me and a gay guy i used to be friends with. other people always thought he was more attractive than me, so i always got blamed for more things, got worse attitude from some etc.. when in reality he is the boring one.
