Stans nowadays think pop is the same as innovative.
Pop surged and became a thing in the 80s which was defined by an artist's popularity, a product, a film, a cast and so on. Whether it was overall popularity in videos, music, tv spots, iconic roles, performances or one's controversies. It was about the product or artist having enough pull to have its consumers, viewers, fans ect.) buy the/their product or talk about their impact which was printed on newspapers which maintained their popularity and helped them become a household name. It was never about risk taking, not being safe but to actually do something or put something out that was great enough for one to buy into. I'm talking about MJ,Pepsi, Coke, Quaker Oatmeal, Larry King Live, Madonna, The Breakfast Club, HungryHungry Hippos, Arcade Games you name it.
I agree with those who say artistic integrity plays key in impact BUT that's not how POP was formed. FACT.
Stans who hate the ones being praised will always pin them against their fave and talk about being more innovative and risk taking which is why their superior in pop but no HONEY take that in a suitcase, hop on a rocket and don't forget to take your faves who defined the true meaning of "pop" by experimenting when failing which doesn't become too POPular right? and enjoy your life in Pandora. Hopefully you get wifi to stream it's station as well up there to catch the latest pop hits and pop news from artists and products that make an impact no matter how big the scale is by remaining relevant and well liked to do so
Katy might not have iconic performances but she's getting those Vevo certifications, the airplay, the news coverage, the single and album sales, the streaming, the fans admiration to dress like her, be inspired by her, create touching videos of fighting for that goal or dream and showing perseverance and determination to never give up because this woman has paved a way in their hearts to do so and most importantly you attention which makes her a Cinderella Slipper in the true world of POP.

This is really a ignorant comment. Those albums are so different from one another.

sorry but no.
i like Katheryn don't get me wrong but she is NOT the present day or any future queen of pop. that kind of title is for artists who have a HUGE amount of impact, have been continuous trend setters, and are willing to take risks. which is exactly why people consider Madonna the queen of pop.
this isn't meant to be shady at all because like i said i do like Katy but calling her the queen of pop just because she has had 2 successful eras is just plain dumb.

Willingness To Evolve
We will see how long she can play the part of the queen of under-10years-old and she will stop to release TD
She still hasn't the force to win a single Grammy even with a album of the year nom

I will never understand ATRL. There is evolution from TD to Prism, the lyrical content is a lot more mature and the album is full of ballads as opposed to TD's bubblegum pop. There's just as much change from TD to Prism as there is from any other artists two albums.
And the whole "she just releases singles that are going to smash" argument... What is she supposed to do? Release singles she doesn't think are going to do well? She already took a risk this era by releasing Unconditionally instead of all the other obvious smashes she could've chosen. When people say she never takes risks it just comes across as stupid and uninformed.
The article is very accurate!

People laughing at the "willingness to evolve"... take a listen to Teenage Dream, and then take a listen to One Of The Boys, and then take a listen to her songs with The Matrix, and then take a listen to Katy Hudson... Katy has changed her sound so many times to adapt to the ever-changing music industry. Not knowing this just makes you look ignorant.
