One thing that really irks me is when people ask,
"Oh, you're gay? So... are you, like... the man or the woman?"
Like, we're both men
That's really it
There's no need to assign gender roles to the two of us to make it more heteronormative and easier for you to digest.
It's really just two men in one relationship. Dassit.
Do you think that this kind of ignorance is punishable?
Well no, it's like when a 3 year old takes something from a shop without buying it and don't get into trouble - they don't understand what they're doing/saying.

I see, I see...
What if the childish 3 yr old rejects this information and continues to be an ignorant nuisance?
Would it then be appropriate to take it one step further and beat that ass?

I don't think rejecting information really falls into the "ignorance" category. At that point the individual has been exposed to a certain knowledge and is simply making the choice to ignore something for which he/she has been given clarification.
That's a reason why I don't accept "ignorance" as an excuse for racism, homophobia, xenophobia, misogyny, or any other form of hate/lack of tolerance.

Hang on...
This smells kinda like some good, piping hot tea
But everyone is ignorant to some degree not everyone knows how neurons work or what is the Japanese ritual to honor ancestors, or how Silk is made, but no one seems to condemn them for this
Honestly ignorance in things that aren't relevant to you is normal I have no need to know every detail about slavery or meta physics, so why bother?
