It SMASHED urban formats and was #1 on those charts for a while, which is generally a local market, granted, so the only reason it'd be an under-performance is because it was never a global single catered to pop radio.
No. I mean I think it only got released in the U.S, where it did very good.
Sure, it didn't do well anywhere in the rest of the world but it wasn't even released there so.
First of all, this isn't a flamebait thread.I LOVE Bey and always bop DIL.But did DIL underperform?
*It's the lead single off BEYONCE
*Got a Grammy performance
*Has viral lyrics (surfboard)
*It's a single from record-breaking album
It sold 1.4 million copies and it's 99 on iTunes.Giving me DWUW,Uncle and Adore You teas.
*It's the lead single off BEYONCE
It was the urban first single. Sent only to urban radios, yet #2 in America and top ten in various major countries around the world.
*Got a Grammy performance
Indeed. It got only one promotional performance.
*Has viral lyrics (surfboard)
Having viral videos is a sign of success, not evidence that it should be more successful.
*It's a single from record-breaking album
Precisely why it didn't have huge first week sales, or massive single sales. If you sell over a million copies of an album before you even release a single, the single isn't going to do the same as usual, especially if you don't promote it in the slightest.
Yeah, pretty much. 1.4m is poor for a hugely anticipated lead single.
A lead single LEADS an album release.
In this case the album lead itself, and the single(s) came afterwards so I'm confused as to what point you're trying to make. "First single" could have been a better wording although it wouldn't have worked here either considering the album's success.
