Signing with Starship was the best choice and will be great for him. I've been a big fan of him for quite a while now and been following all his past releases. His material is perfection and I'm just so happy he's gotten more exposure now and is getting a second chance at having more success.
I bought the album on iTunes because I had credit, and it was actually really worthwhile. I like them doing babymaking R&B and that one song that's like an updated, sexier version of "Gone" by NSYNC. I also don't really see the 1D similarities - 1D would never do something with a guitar line vamp like that. They're much more flat; EXO's production was dynamic and actually had a pulse to it. Don't get me wrong - it's still pretty western as far as that track goes - but overall I think the mini was distinctly their own.
I'm pleased with them. I'm pleased with SM for generally just being more consistent than they used to.
