It’s not something I’ve really been offered. But I might. I didn’t know how bad the music industry had got in those four years I was out.

Did you decide to manage your career in a different way this time round?
Maybe. Now I’m not earning much from the music, I won’t do as much promo for the record company. It’s changed in that sense. I have to look at other ways. Back then it was about doing as much press as possible, but now one quote will spread everywhere. So you don’t want to do as much, because you saturate the media very quickly. Jonathan Ross, X Factor, so many opinions, it’s too much. You want to hold it back.

I think most of us knew there was no money is selling records anymore but this is more direct confirmation.

It's probably why Madonna, Kylie, Britney etc. have stopped caring about album sales and it's all about the tours now.

I'll never understand this. Shouldn't artists be proud of their music and perform it regardless of where the money goes? Shouldn't they WANT their music to be successful? It's not like performing on a TV show for 3 minutes is the most difficult and energy consuming task in the world!

From a fan point of view I agree, but I think artists feel like they're just catering to the 'machine', its probably pretty soul destroying

Well, when you only care about money, you only do things that will fill your bank account. When you love what you do, you push your music as much as possible because it means something to you.

They are proud of the music. It's why they tour with it for almost a year, sometimes longer.

But why promote an album, that your worked on knowing that you aren't going to see most of the cash from it. Some of the biggest selling songs like Poker Face, Tik Tok etc. only gave the artist 100k.
Yet the label scored like over 10 million.

Touring means the artists can be proud of the music and get money back from it.

Not promoting your music on TV shows that you don't care about having sales attached to your name.
Touring means you want travel and sing your music around the globe.

I'd rather Lily tour the world so all her fans can see her, rather than do a promo spot on a TV show that's shown around the world online, and call it a day.
