I don't know if it's just me but I would really love it if would have at least ONE picture in our signatures. I mean, it looks really nice with a matching avatar. I know the reason why we don't but I was wondering if their was a way to get around it?


Also, I think our SIGNATURES are way too complex, we can't have a size bigger than FOUR, nor can it be more than 5 lines long, THAT'S REALLY UNFAIR.

Yeah the signatures kinda suck..Though I kinda picked a good one at last...size and color wish...

I agree with Johnny (because I think smileys are fine) and Kworb (because I like the simple signatures). It's just such a freaking mess when people put these gigantic blends in their sigs like anyone gives a **** about them. They're cute to look at once but then they're just annoying to scroll by constantly. It makes it hard to find the next post in a sea of images and long signatures. And before we had a length limit here, it was obnoxious, because people like Ed (RIP) would put like 50 line signatures and you'd be scrolling and scrolling to get through a thread. One of the things I like about this forum is that I don't have to do that.

I don't know if it would slow the server but it would make the pages take longer to load when they contain 45 images

The signature rules were made all the way back in 2001. It makes ATRL much better to cut off the signatures at 7 lines and make it so pictures and videos can't be in them. Signatures with large text and pictures are distracting and messy.

That's also why smilies were removed from signatures more recently--in the "old days" we only had tiny smilies, but now we have some pretty freakin' giant "smilies" as well, and people were littering their signatures with these giant images.

BTW, to illustrate my point...


You think somebody wouldn't do this? Oh, they would. Even if only a few people did this, it would be annoying as hell and everybody else would go deactivate signatures entirely on their Options page.

Nick is right, if we had pix or tons of text it would make scrolling that much more annoying. What we have now is completely fine.

how could they implement that when the images are hosted off-site and the signature area is not like the avatar area, it can include text too, it's a free form area and it's probably (I don't know for sure) not possible to restrict the size of a picture when it's put in with image code, since the [img] thing doesn't know the size of the picture it's linking to. But anyway the administrator just said his word

I know, but I believe Moderators can warn users who don't respect the size rule. Plus, I think administrators can control the signatures of everyone.

Not entirely true. Nick is right; the [IMG] tag has no idea about the size of the image you're linking to. There's no way to restrict the size of an image in signatures. So, as I've said, never gonna happen

Pics in signatures suck... The same goes with "> 500KB" avatars
