So Dan A. produced 9 songs on UV including WC, and Dan Heath produced 2?
*hopes for more songs*

I try to avoid this thread a little bit; because I don't want to get overhyped
So 11 tracks? That's enough if the quality is good

It says that the song is an example of the shift from BTD's hip-hop beats, and the rhythmic music that American radios love, to the new, more melancholic, rock sound. (Another part of the interview says "The hip-hop beats of Born to Die, its strings and legendary violins are gone...Guitars, rock-and-roll and soft jazzy vibes - Ultraviolence is here.") Sorry to disappoint those who wanted more hip-hop beats, but this maturation of sound makes me very happy.

I can already imagine how epic those guitars will sound!
I mean WC is a proof of what epicness is to come!

Damn it, you caught my post before I deleted.
I was wrong. It says that UV as a whole abandons the hip-hop beats in favor of melancholic rock and soft jazz, but that MPG has traces of it still while the first single, WC, exhibits the shift in sound.

The only thing I'm worried about is the imagery, she seems to have completely abandoned her iconic looks and it doesn't seem like she's interested in creating new ones. I don't mind for this era cause the grungy look will probably fit the album, but I hope we see some cooler looks in the future

She's shifted from pin-up to 60s/70s rock star a la Stevie Nicks or Janis Joplin. It still works in favor of her nostalgic image.

I think she wants to actually get rid of some things, like she says "it was too much" of it.
I guess she really wanted to focus on the music and leave some things aside people were telling her she needed to do. Of course, in terms of marketing and promotion it worked, but you can clearly sense that she is not thirsty for fame and success.
For people who have hoped for another album with the same sound as BTD, they will be disappointed and they will probably stay away, but she really doesn't seem to be interested in re-creating BTD. I am sure if she wanted to, she would have done it.

Which really says a lot about her, IMO. She could have easily sold out and made more mainstream music after the success of BTD, but she went in the complete opposite direction instead and made more personal music.

Bless !
I hope she continues to experience new stuff but doesn't completely let go her sound.

So, we have "West Coast', "Cruel World", "Money, Power and Glory," and possibly "Black Beauty."
My expectations are incredibly high for this album. This really has the potential to be a huge breakthrough with critics and the Grammys.

Oh, I am pretty sure that BTD is also very personal to her, at least at the time she has written and recorded it.

Definitely! I just mean she decided to be even more personal sonically rather than making more generic pop music to capitalize on BTD's success.

BTD isn't generic aha
But yeah I agree with the rest of what you're saying. So happy she stayed true to herself and did what she wanted/loved.

Sigh. That isn't what I'm saying. Of course BTD is not generic or even pop, IMO. I'm saying that she could have gone in that direction after having an album as popular as BTD, but instead stayed true to herself and went in an even less conventional direction sonically and thematically.

Oh, yeah, you just didn't word it completely like to that in your last post, but I agree! I'm so grateful she didn't go a la SS remix, that'd be tragic. Hopefully there's nothing super reminiscent of BTD!

Y'all I think the little koonses are going to send me to vacation here soon,
maybe before the release of the album of the year Ultraviolence.
