Ohh, that would be protected though. It is the over excess force that isn't protected. For example, a girl hits you and you hit her back after a delay or with having other options means you get no self defense. But say she hits you, you push her away from you and she just subsequently happens to fall off a cliff. Her falling off the cliff would be unforeseeable and you would have a self defense defense. The law is stupid like that.
