Racism is incredibly successful, despite having no basis at all in fact. There is only one race, the human race, Homo sapiens sapiens. Yet because racism exists, everyone bangs on endlessly about "race".

Yet, in the cause of discussing racism, or measuring its influence, "race" is accepted as some sort of meaningful system of categorising humans. Routinely, mere skin colour is referred to as something immutable – "race". One is often compelled to state one's "race" in forms, for example. One is sometimes invited to consider ticking "mixed race". Mixed race? What a ridiculous, fantastical concept. Mixed ethnicity would be more accurate, if not any more useful. Different ethnic backgrounds exist, of course. But different ethnicities are not different "races".

All this monitoring of "race" is predicated not on some essential and basic genetic division between humans, but on the existence of racism, which tries to promulgate the idea that essential and basic genetic differences between humans exist, when they don't.

Our "race" is human. We are all just people, in a big, wide, multi-ethnic world.

I'm all in for a colourblind society. The whole discussion regarding ethnicity is so tiring.

It's very strange how white people try to erase the culture of others and call that getting rid of racism. It's very strange.

I used to sort of think like this but this is too far in the future. Realistically, there are still definitely many racial issues and discrimination, and while it would be nice if we lived in a society that looks beyond this,its simply not going to work in today's society.

The better question to now ask is if you'll ignore these structural racial inequalities, or if you will acknowledge it.

No one is trying to erase any culture. However, we do need to be more united as a society. The divisions are literally killing people everywhere.

That is one of the few benefits of being blind. It's a horrible thing to have to deal with, but in terms of getting to know someone you learn about them and become friends with them regardless of their physical features. I have massive respect for blind people.

Exactly, there is no scientific evidence. There can't be a thing such as mixed-race. Racism is marketed to create divisions.

Homo sapiens sapiens is a subspecies.
Our "race" is the Kentucky Derby.

Well, we can start now by empowering everyone (regardless of race) to take responsibility for themselves and prove themselves to be people worthy of society's respect.

Can't we just have one thread and label it "racism" so people can discuss/fight about it until the end of time?

It'll take a while to live in a "color blind" society when people are still passing off viewing an entire ethnicity as unattractive as a "preference".

Easier said than done! As I said there are still structural inequalities in the US that puts minority at a disadvantage. And what "standards" are we talking about for an individual to achieve to gain society's respect? Are we talking about becoming the "white mainstream" standard in order to become a "productive" member of society??
