I'm, probably, what you would call a "new black". I don't let my skin color define who I am. I don't bind with the stereotypical view of"black culture". Growing up in the area I did, which was very suburban, I was exposed to a number of positive people and had a great education.
I've never felt like I didn't have the same opportunities as "the successful white people" around me. In my workplace, I've progressed past many people both black and white.
Racism and hardships exist for many people out there, regardless of ethnicity... but I don't like when people use that as an excuse for being held back in life. People need to change their attitude and go out into life with positivity, respect, dignity and grace. They'll then realize that the world is theirs.

This applies for a small few. Of course you have to work hard to get something but in this country people will think of you differently without even knowing you.
You can be polite and graceful all you want but if you're black you feel the pressure to put on a certain image so you don't get seen a certain way.
That is the point that poster is trying to make they are not excusing the uses of excuses but you do have disadvantages. Some people work and never see the fruit of their labor but that can apply to anyone.
