I'll refer you to Pharrell's quote:
Quote:
The “new black” doesn’t blame other races for our issues. The “new black” dreams and realizes that it’s not a pigmentation; it’s a mentality. And it’s either going to work for you, or it’s going to work against you. And you’ve got to pick the side you’re gonna be on.

Not within the context of the post you replied to. It was referencing specifically colored people and you responded with that argument. Either you know exactly what you're talking about or you didn't write that post the way you intended. Either way, it's off-topic and has nothing to do with this thread so why did you even bother bringing it up?

Well, welfare is an issue plaguing people of colour, but just because I suggested it as a solution doesn't mean that white people who are on welfare are exempt from also fixing their behaviour.

Luckily there aren't as much anti semites in the world has there were 60 years ago, unfortunately racism to black people lives on in our society

In the US? Admittedly his family (and many others around the world still) suffered greatly before moving here, and kudos to them for being able to escape that. But once you're here and not marked as a Jew everywhere you go (and appear just like "any other white guy"), that's entirely different than being quite obviously a POC no matter what.
Unless I've missed the period of American history where we enslaved Jews, and then had legally-enforced segregation?

Same goes for twerking, dreads, multiple cultural piercings, etc. Its "ratchet" if you're black, "unique/trendy" if you're white.
That's white privilege in black communities.
|
I don't agree. It may be considered "trendy" among younger people who participate in it but they aren't calling black people ratchet for doing the same thing. And if they do, they're obviously trying to be a part of the "ratchet" scene... ironically or seriously, I don't think it's them being racist or hateful.
But to most people... twerking is "ratchet", dreads are nasty and multiple cultural piercings are unprofessional, no matter your skin color.

You sound like an idiot. First of all, for you to make this comment shows that you have NO idea about the systemic disadvantages facing people on welfare and in marginalized communities. That comment in itself was damaging and very privileged.
Secondly, what does welfare and having children having to do with privilege? Privilege isn't about being on welfare or having lots of children. It's about systemically having advantages over others because you fill a certain mold or criteria.
How old are you because you sound extremely ignorant and not knowledgeable of the world at all. I'm sure your white ass can't understand privilege because you're soaked in. How about stepping outside of your white ass world with your racist (yes RACIST, bitch) ass comments and think about others for once. Oh wait, you're white so you don't have to. That is privilege you little **** so next time do your research before embarrassing yourself on a music forum website.
Have a wonderful Friday and remember...check your privilege. Good day.

The "new black" is ignorant to think that unless you're lightskin and a "comfortable shade" for white people, you're not going to be treated the same. The "new black" should open their eyes and realize that they don't have the same opportunities as the successful white people around them. The "new black" needs to realize that they need to work twice as hard to be a percentage of what white people are. The "new black" needs to know that yes, you can dream, but you also need to work hard to create equality for your brothers and sisters.

Admittedly, yes. It's much easier to hide one's identity as a Jew than it is to hide one's identity as a nonwhite person, which allowed us to quickly assimilate into American society.
Of course, this came at the cost of keeping our identities secret, but that's another matter altogether.

like, let's not pretend that this genre popularizes white artists more because it really doesn't.

Privilege will be here until blacks start finding themselves in REAL positions of power.
And don't mention Barack Obama because at the end of the day, WHITE congress stays running ****.

Get out of here with that Pharrell quote.
He has no idea what he is talking about, this is the same man who said blood is blue before it hits the air

Don't forget Mac Miller, Vanilla Ice, Beastie Boys...
But white people in rap music is clearly not the most important thing in this post. You must be completely delusional if you think this is an example of 'black privilege'
