It's not great but I wouldn't say its terrible.
It just doesn't seem cohesive and it feels like half of it was going somewhere and then they just plopped awhole bunch of tracks to dilute the entire record...Body ache, It should be easy, Tik tik boom, chillin with you,

There are some songs with good lyrics but sound unfinished (i.e. Passenger).

Personal songs:
-Till its gone...dated serving 2001 bonus track Before the goodbye teas but still good.
-Passenger...lyrics are amazing and capture where she is in her life but it is sang horribly. Like, could you blow your nose before getting in the recording booth
-It should be easy...so we are just going to record her while she is underwater. It's basic but radio friendly
-Don't cry...seems like a chapter 2 of criminal but it's amazing
-Brightest morning star is one that creeps up on you. Beautiful
-Now that i found you...great message to capture where she is in life.
-Hold on tight...amazing song but forgettable.

Songs that are dated as hell:
Just slap me in the face and disrespect me why dontcha?
-Tik tik boom sounds like it would have been fresh in 2003 with snoop rapping on it and would have been perfect for her come hither image for In the zone
-Body ache sounds halfway finished and I keep wanting to sing I'll be antiiiiiiiicipating (Anticipating 2001) because you can literally sing that over the chorus.

The irony:
-Work btch...really btch, really
I saw not one performance, basic promo etc.

Just wrong:
-Chillin with Poo- I keep hearing Rihanna's birthday cake beat. It's just disrespectful how tacky it is and corny.
-Perfumes which I call Pee fumes stinking up the place. The 1950s desperation is real. When female anthems are about uplifting and not being desperate about a man she is here for women being desperate knowing her man is cheating and just hoping the other woman smells her perfume. That scent aint stopping the btch from pouncing on your man. Dead at her label deeming this nonsense her career record. Btch please.

That said, it's a certified flop era but at least Work btch is iconic so every era has something iconic about it.
Baby one more time in itself is iconic to include the video.

Not horrible, just really mediocre. I blame will, though.

The album could've sold Adele figures and that wouldn't save it from garbage like Work Work, It Should Be Easy, Perfume, and Chillin With You.

It's not even bad to begin with. It just crystalizes what the stans that were hanging by a hair didn't want, that is non-edgy and non-urban music. Also, let's keep in mind how the majority of reviewers find the very idea of "personal" Britney (which it is, if you know her life story and personality) laughable and were ready to trash it even before playing that play button... Except, "It Shoud Be Easy" and "Body Ache", I don't hear the genericity anywhere, in fact, it might be one of the weirdest pop album to have been released in the past few years (too weird and quirky, for most?). I guess, it's yet another negative term that some people want to attach Britney's name with.

Anyway, I agree with some posts saying it's a modern follow up to her Oops/Britney days and those are very underrated nowadays because they don't have the sonical bragging rights of ITZ, Blackout and FF.

It reminds me a bit of Glitter, which was supposed to be that horrific, damned record but when I listened to it, I was almost dissapointed. Indeed, it was far from being a bad album.

It's not a bad record, just some rushed pretty basic pop songs, with a couple standouts. It's similar to a lot of the other pop girls most recent releases.

It's just a trend here on ATRL to hate on it, same with ARTPOP.

It's no longer "a good album" because it didn't "slay all of [our] faves" like the Britney stans prophesied it would. Isn't that how ATRL works?

Nope. Britney Jean is great.
As a whole the album doesn't flow together like Blackout and FF do but there's no law that says every album has to be like that. On an individual basis, almost every track has something good to offer.

Production is lacklustre compared to her previous but that's will.i.am's fault. Britney's vocals sound more alive and engaged than it did in Femme Fatale and that's a plus.

Overall its probably my fourth favorite album from her.

I don't get the hate.
