Among the forms of slaughter that have become commonplace in Syria’s civil war, crucifixion may be no more brutal than barrel bombs or sarin gas attacks. But the revival of an ancient form of torture is one sign of what life is like under the rule of one of Syria’s powerful Islamist factions. And it’s an indication that, despite years of public hand-wringing in the West over Syria’s bloody and rapid decline, the country is continuing to plummet into new depths of the abyss.

The thing is, I'm pretty sure it was only a handful of people who were against the government in the first place. Most of the people in Syria were fine with their government (according to my friend there), but foreign Jidhadis infiltrated the country and made the whole thing spiral out of control. Most of these "rebel" factions aren't even Syrian.

I'm pretty sure there are a lot coming from Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and Turkey. I think a lot of people were upset because most of the Muslim population in Syria were Sunni, whereas Assad is Alawite and gives preference to the minorities (Shiites, Alawites, Christians, etc) which made people mad. It's really sad that the civil war has gotten to this point, Syria used to be such a beautiful place

You probably must not have heard of militant atheism. It caused 10x the death toll, in just 100 years, of all religious extremism and wars in 2000+ years.

It's a shame when religion now becomes a brand whose purpose is to attract more people to buy it and to "force" others to join the ride. Religion should not care whether they have more followers or not. Religion is supposed to not follow the path of pop girls; growing popularity and attracting mass. Religion should look inside and straighten out their believers.

This is why I dislike most (or perhaps, major) religions like Islam or Christianity. They torture those who are not in line with their belief. I'm speaking here as the victim of Muslim's discrimination to be honest. I will just pray for them since they just do not know what they are doing.

The problem is not directly with the people, but with the text. Individuals are offered heavenly incentives for converting another to their religion. If I was super religious, I would aspire to obtain those gifts in the afterlife.

It is also the fear of the unknown.
