Mass Shooting at FedEX in Atlanta
Quote:
Atlanta, Georgia (CNN) -- A FedEx package handler went on a shooting rampage early Tuesday at his workplace in suburban Atlanta, wounding six people -- three of them critically -- before turning the gun on himself, officials said.
"That individual is deceased here at the scene," Cobb County Police Sgt. Dana Pierce told reporters. Police were sweeping the area with search dogs to ensure no secondary devices had been planted.
Pierce would not release the name of the employee, whose body was found near a shotgun. "That was the only weapon that he had at that time," Pierce said. "As far as I know, he worked at this location."
The warehouse is located in Kennesaw, Georgia, about 21 miles northwest of downtown Atlanta.
"Numerous" 911 calls from inside the half-million-square-foot package and delivery facility alerted police to the shooting at 5:54 a.m., Pierce said.
The victims were taken to WellStar Kennestone Hospital, where an emergency room doctor involved in the response said three were in critical condition.
EMS officials warned the hospital at 6:26 a.m. to prepare for the victims' arrival, Dr. Michael Nitzken said. By 7 a.m., the six patients -- all of whom had suffered multiple gunshot wounds -- had arrived.
Without naming them, Nitzken identified them as:
-- a 28-year-old man in critical condition who was undergoing surgery;
-- a 52-year-old woman in critical condition who was undergoing surgery;
-- a 22-year-old man in critical condition;
-- a 28-year-old man in stable condition;
-- a 42-year-old woman who was treated and released;
-- a 19-year-old man who was treated and was to be released shortly.
Two of the patients -- the 28-year-old man and the 52-year-old woman -- suffered life-threatening injuries and the man was placed on mechanical ventilation, he said. "They appeared to be shotgun blast effects, with multiple, small projectiles," Nitzken said.
Their arrival at the level-two trauma center coincided with a shift change. "That proved to be to our benefit," the doctor said, because the staff was double what it typically would be. "We're trying to make the best of a bad outcome."
FedEx spokesman Scott Fielder told CNN that the situation had stabilized "and we are focused on the needs of our team members and cooperating with the law enforcement investigation of this tragedy."

Agreed!
If these people had all been carrying guns, they could have been able to defend themselves.

We obviously need more guns. Everyone needs one in Georgia.
Why not have a collection of guns under your belt too. Everyone should own at least 2, even children. It'll make the state a safer place.

Shotguns are legal in almost every country, it could have happened anywhere.

Experts from the Harvard School of Public Health, using data from 26 developed countries, have shown that wherever there are more firearms, there are more homicides. In the case of the United States, exponentially more: the American murder rate is roughly 15 times that of other wealthy countries, which have much tougher laws controlling private ownership of guns.
|
But, of course, instead of taking away the problem itself we just add another problem to counter the problem that already persists. Makes a lot of sense.

"uhh"?
If you were in that building being targeted by a murderous man with a shotgun, would you not rather have a pistol than just your empty hands?

You're literally in every gun thread trolling.
Those statistics posted are more than enough to silence any pro-gun argument. Every country that has heavily regulated gun use has been better off for it.

It's not trolling. I'm registered on at least 15 gun forums, I take this seriously. And even if banning guns caused a lower murder rate (it doesn't) I would still think those countries were worse off because their citizens lost freedoms.
