Why is it okay for African-Americans to playfully call each other the N word, but it automatically becomes racist when anyone else uses it? I'm talking about using it in a non derogatory manner of course.

If it's wrong to use a certain word than shouldn't it always be wrong no matter what the case?

This is exactly how I feel. It's an ugly word that I never use and I feel no one should. Not even as a joke.

Same can be asked about the b word, f word, or anyother deragatory word that is used between friends. It's all about the intent behind the word.

Since when are black people a monolith??? Many blacks don't use the word or agree with it on any level, and i'm talking about using that word in a loose convo. So to say it's this double standard as if we all agree in unison that blacks can use it playfully to me isn't a strong argument for that position. Anyways as far as the n word debacle why be surprised?? It's almost akin to how some people are offended when people outside of their culture makes stereotypical jokes, yet are more receptive to people from their own respective culture taking digs.

As far as the n word. If you are not racist why would you feel compelled to use the word?? If you don't belong to that race and never lived through the hardships that race endures, why would you feel comfortable suing that word?? I'm not racist and no matter how many times my friends say it's okay I don't think it's appropriate to use racial slurs that are targeted toward different groups of people.

I don't think anyone should use tbh. Most likely when a black person uses it you can assume they aren't trying to be racist (since the word has history with black people) but when a white person uses it you never know
