All in all, both are career defining songs for the both of them and has furthered their careers by a lot. Toxic cemented an icon status for Britney whereas Single Ladies introduced Beyonce to the newer generation which has helped with her relevancy. The thing is Beyonce decided to take advantage of Single Ladies whereas Britney just threw all of their opportunities away with Toxic's success.

Video-wise, Single Ladies by a long long shot. Toxic would win if it was the song.

Toxic was so different from what was hot then. Just look at the hit songs from 2004. It paved the way for EDM.. as you can see since music started shifting drastically in 2005/6. Kind of like how it is shifting now.

Can you even name a single song that "Single Ladies" impacted in terms of sound? "Single Ladies" was/is extremely generic. It's basically Beyonce's "Womanizer," except the Hive don't realize that she actually has a much bigger video and song with "Crazy In Love."

Did you really just compare "Toxic" to "Baby Boy?" Sis, I love "Baby Boy," but "Toxic" actually impacted the sound of music.


Gaga spoke about her videos being inspired by Britney and Nicki talked about her video being inspired by Britney. In fact, "Massive Attack" references Britney multiple times with the "It's Barbie, bitch," pink wigs on the clones that look alike (like in PoM), etc. There's a reason why the Army was so big on Nicki in 2010-2011 and begged her label to kick off Enrique for her.

Yes toxic was different but as far as music shifting drastically from 2005-2006. I don't see it in that case. All of the number ones that were apart of 2005/2006 were still urban, hell even 2007 still was predominately urban. I would say the whole edm influence in pop started to take over in 2008 into 2009 if anything

I want you to honestly think what Single Ladies did that was new. Black-and-white? 70% of Bey's videography was black-and-white up to that point. Dance craze? Soulja Boy had a bigger dance craze just the year prior. Leotards? Gaga had those in "Poker Face." The leotard? Gaga had already been performing in leotards for months before Single Ladies came out. What else is there to the video?

Just the year after "Toxic," "Hung Up" came out and was a humongous global hit as was Madonna's dance-pop masterpiece album.
