Not according to any scientific study I have ever heard of. People said this about movies, people said it about music and now they are saying it about video games.

most people can tell the difference between reality and fantasy and anyone who can't and who would mirror this kind of behavior would be doing it anyway just with something else, like real life violence for example.

What studies? The one's I have read said that they only really cause a slight increase in aggression and only in those who are already prone to aggression. I have seen nothing about bullying and hurting women, are you getting your facts from Anita Sarkeesian or something?

People, like myself, who grew up seeing violence in video games and turned out alright are going to say "no," which is completely understandable and accurate for the majority of players. However, I do believe that there are many cases where violent video games, and media in general, has attributed to acts of violence in the real world. It's sorta like car games, but not as common. I don't have the statistics to back up this claim (and I cba to search for them) but I can guarantee you that A LOT of kids and teenagers believe they can do certain things in vehicles because they could do them in a video game. Again, because they are so connected to that car in the game that they may forget that it's just that, a game.

There are a lot of gamers on here, so I'm sure I'll get bombarded with comments telling me this is ridiculous- but I'm pretty sure it's the truth. It's happening in the world right now and there is plenty of evidence.

Honestly, I feel that for most people video games are the alternative to actual violence. Which is a good thing.

I feel like since people have had the chance to vent out in video games, it gives then less desire to go out and commit those crimes.

No. If you can't distinguish the difference between what you can do in a video game and what it's ok to do IRL, there was something wrong with your mind before you played the video game, and that mental illness is the root of the issue.

Have you guys ever heard about the massacre of 13 people at Columbine High School in Jefferson County in 1999? The two shooters were regular players of Wolfenstein 3D and Doom, which are combat games involving weapons. I am not generalizing but just stating some facts.

In some part yes but it's not really their fault, it's their parents' fault for allowing their kids to play those type of games IMO.

A mentally sound person does not determine that it is acceptable to kill people in real life simply because they are able to spend time doing so in a virtual setting. In order for such a disconnect to occur, there must be an underlying mental issue. That is what is to blame. The video game is merely a catalyst.

The next step from buying into the idea that violent video games cause violence is attempting to legislate what kind of video games are allowed to be made. If you think you have the right to determine what kind of video games I can and cannot play, you can go **** yourself.

Of course not, this nonsensical myth was pushed by the NRA a thousands years ago when they selfishly tried to blame the video game industry for tragic gun-related crimes.

The same idiots who do so are happy to go take themselves and their kids to see violent movies though.

As a child I played the doom series, Hexen, Heretic and similar games and I am pretty laid back and mellow. So, I don't think violent video games or movies do anything to a child, unless they already have a serious mental illness anyways.
