Birthday is going to be more a simmer until it gets to the top. It's not that people aren't buying the song; not a lot of people are aware that the song exists yet.

Its sales to airplay ratio is incredibly low, though. Other songs getting roughly the same airplay on Pop as "Birthday" are in like the 10s to the 30s.

KIIS is a pain in the ass. I heard Dark Horse a million times this week (probably on PR) and Teenage Dream, but no Birthday. I still use this single a lot, regardless of how it does. I just don't want the era to die like P!nk's did when True Love was released.

if its the Era ending, it wont. Capitol has a couple of singles lined up after Birthday.
I Think the problem with Birthday is the lack of performances and promotion.

The Question in my mind is:
After DH dies. Will Birthday rise to prominence?

I don't think Capitol wants Birthday to be huge.
Of course they want it to smash but it's not their main priority when the tour is about to start so they might not go too heavy with the promo.

Guys, seriously calm down. Capitol expects DH to be big till May. The iTunes banner for Bday will probably come then.

Also, goldsoundz said that the video would not be appropriate for kids' FB walls. Y'all were the ones who pictured a softcore ****. So let's enjoy this slow building hit. I have faith in this one.

Because they want people to at least be aware Katy is still promoting music. If Capitol wanted Birthday #1 they would have done a better MV and they wouldn't have released the MV so soon. I think they just want another Katy single on the radio for a few months even if it's not huge so she can tour and release better singles in the fall when the award shows and stuff are. She really doesn't have a summer smash like she did with TD. TIHWD is possible, but I don't see it as a single. WoA will not smash

The only high profile performance i can see in the future are the BBMAs and only if she sends a pre tape performance of the tour.

I'm sorry, but anyone saying "Capitol doesn't want this to be a big hit" is delusional. They wouldn't have released it otherwise.

DH is still big, just wait. I swear, this must be the most impatient fanbase.

Birthday is an important single, and it's important for us to have patience with its smashing.

That's true but its just so frustrating that Bday is getting treated like this (called a flop when it really hasn't taked off yet). It makes me a little worried.

People are still buying Dark Horse. You can only except so much selling capacity at once.

Part of the reason I want this song to smash is so that I can quote it with my friends and have them know what I'm talking about

I can finally say things are "coming atcha like a dark horse" but any mention of "I will lav yew huncondishonallie" gets them confused.
