Pizza Delivery Driver Wearing Hoodie Shοt by Plainclothes Cops
As Holland walked back to his Ford Taurus wearing a hoodie, with his hands in his pocket, he was stopped by two plainscothes police officers. Police say a misunderstanding led police to fill Holland’s car with bullets, hιtting the 20 year old pizza delivery driver in the neck, leg, and hand.
“As I understand it, they asked the male to stop. The male, in quick fashion, got in his car and he drove at a high rate of speed towards the officers. The officers then discharged out of fear for their lives,” Deputy Police Commissioner Richard Ross said. Ross alleges that the officers identified themselves as police, but admitted that Holland may’ve believed he was being rοbbed.
“We are getting information that he is a pizza deliveryman, so it is a possibility he may have thought he was being rοbbed. We do know the police officers announced themselves as police officers; he may not have heard that. Again, what I stress is this is all preliminary at this point,” Ross explained. “It may just be an unfortunate set of circumstances all the way around.”
Lt. John Stanford admitted that per the city’s guidelines, officers are not supposed to fire into moving vehicles. Neither officer said they saw Holland with a weapon of any kind.
“That is our policy, ‘Don’t shoot at moving vehicles’—it’s clearly laid out that way,” Stanford added.
