Yes, black women were not perceived as beautiful for a long time because they were treated as subhuman by white society. White people did that. That's why its an accomplishment. No one would make this fuss over a white person because they've always been the beauty standard.

Firstly, "only accepting" that some of those women are actually "full figured" when all of them are- most moreso than Marylin- is completely ridiculous.
All of those women were just as curvy as Beyoncé and if you think people somehow didn't notice back then, you're incorrect.

Yes, fashion is cyclical. BUT, the idea that Beyoncé revolutionised the standard of beauty in the 00s is also distorted. See: Tyra Banks, Salma Hayek, Mariah Carey, even Christina & Britney

I personally feel Lupita is gorgeous but I must say mainstream jumps on these bandwagons. One point and time it was all about Alek Wek. If you are from true African descent, you have an easier time IMO to be accepted as beautiful by the MAINSTREAM. If you are and American black, the standard of "beauty" is still the Beyonce's, Nicki's and Rihanna's. American black women, again IMO, are judges harshly. If you don't fit a certain mold, it is still rare to be held as the standard of beauty if you are an American black woman.
