FLASHBACK : Story Behind Rihanna's 'Man Down' Hook

The two Australian radio comedians Hamish and Andy are the hosts of a self-titled show where they interviewed Rihanna for the first time in 2010. At that moment, they jokingly gave the singer an idea / a melody for a song. When they interviewed her again in 2012, Hamish and Andy recalled the previous conversation with Rihanna. They asked her:

"If you think of a tune instead of humming something in the morning do you call Jay-Z and go 'rapapapa? By the way, if we hear 'rapapapa' in one of your songs we're going to know where you got it from."
As soon as Rihanna replied that she would not do that, they put the recording of "Man Down" playing in the background. The song actually includes a repetitive hook as "ra pa-pa-pum", which largely contributed to its popularity in Europe.
Watch the video below where you can see Rihanna putting her hands in front of her mouth and laughing while sounding embarrassed at the same time. She then adds: "I need a lawyer!”
