It's a Small World, the Disneyland ride, is set to become a feature film, it has been announced.
The ride, an indoor boat ride featuring singing animatronic dolls themed around different countries around the world, first opened in the Los Angeles Disney park in 1966, and is now at every Disney park worldwide; an iconic Disneyland favourite.
It is unclear what the film adaptation will be about, but it seems likely that it will be a CGI animation.
Disney has had mixed success with ride-to-film adaptations. Pirates of the Caribbean is one of the biggest film franchises of all time, but The Haunted Mansion didn't fare so well.
Nevertheless, we're looking forward to seeing what Disney will do with this property. They also have 'Tomorrowland' slated for 2015, which is based on the Disneyland land of the same name, and a 'Magic Kingdom' movie, where all the Disney characters come to life in the parks, is also slated (although that just seems like a Night at the Museum rip-off, and Enchanted was similar).
Interestingly enough, no Expedition Everest movie has been mentioned, even though that seems like the better option. Maybe they're waiting for the ride to build up a fanbase?
What do you think? Do you think this could work out, or is it just silly and unoriginal? Remember: no-one expected the Lego Movie to be so good!
