So, no essays, extracurriculars, etc.?

History has proven that a) Affirmative Action is not necessary in the current day with the vast majority of colleges/universities, b) Affirmative Action actually ends up hurting a lot of minority students in terms of success in school and/or acceptance into the school to begin with, and c) income is a better point to level the playing field and diversify campuses than race/gender alone.

The legacies systems cannot even be compared to AA in this instance. Legacies and further advantages are really only an issue in top schools where acceptance rates are low as is. Since these colleges almost all happen to be private as well they can do whatever they please regarding their acceptance policies with legacies since they have endowments. As for AA, I am glad it is slowly being phased out because looking at the big picture, it's shows an advancement towards true equality in my eyes as race blind admitions truly represent a step forward towards equality.

It's a sizable difference, and does harm to black/latino students and Asian students too. Beyond just lowering standards for black/latino applicants (which has many negative effects in and of itself), plenty of studies have shown that students who were admitted with lower GPAs and SATs end up flunking out of the schools that they were admitted to versus excelling/graduating at a lower-quality institution that they would have qualified for normally.

I disagree with Affirmative Action and I hope it ends. And I am Hispanic. The Government shouldn't be separating people because of race and ethnicity. I go to College and did not get no Affirmative Action at all. I got in like others did. And people have asked me if I took advantage of Affirmative Action. What?!?

You clearly have no idea what AA is.

And you don't know if the reason you got into college is due to Affirmative Action. They don't put a stamp on your acceptance letter saying "Congrats, you're an Affirmative Action acceptance!".

The reason why you even stood a chance at getting in was likely because of it. Affirmative Action was put in place to PREVENT racial inequality, not entice it.

I hate when people act as though most accomplishments by minorities such as Blacks and Latinos are due to affirmative action. The fact that he mentioned a black student with "MUCH" lower stats, as his example speaks volumes... not saying that affirmative action doesn't occur, but who's to say the black student next to you doesn't have MUCH higher stats. Believe it or not, Blacks and Latinos are capable of great accomplishment outside the realm of Affirmative Action.

Well, I think the Supreme Court is right.

They spend their lives on issues like these, they are the most knowledgeable.

So when the Supreme Court says "it's okay for Michigan to ban affirmative action" then I will agree with them... because who is a more reputable source, a few ATRLers, or the top justices in the land?

So anyways I have to agree with Michigan.

TBH. The long term goal is to get to the point where it is no longer needed and we have true racial equality.

I feel like some people loose sight of that. AA is 100% necessary, but I only support it as long as there is an understanding that one day it needs to end.
