I didn't hear about it at a time, but I read about this part later on:

The story and girl's picture was up on the wall in some church I went to.
I turned 12 just days after Columbine... I was in 6th grade. I remember being paranoid that my school would suffer the same fate, a sentiment which I also experienced the second week of 9th grade when 9/11 happened. Columbine & the Oklahoma City Bombing in 1995 are my earliest memories of being scared of being killed
