How come after Columbine there hasn't been a law for bullying? Bullying has gotten worse since the 90's

It hasn't got worse, just political correctness makes it seem much more worse than it really is.

Law for bullying?

First school bullies are kids, you gonna lock them up?

Second my grandma always said "bullying builds character".

It's definitely gotten worse. The Internet brought bullying to a new level and made it much easier for people to bully others without feeling guilty bc it's done from behind a computer screen.

I'm not sure it would be possible to simply pass a law. I'm not sure it would accomplish anything. How would they implement it?

I disagree, today people are much less homophobic and racist, It's gotten much less physical, so somewhat less damaging. I agree obviously there is a whole new platform, but a lot of what people consider "cyber bullying" are very small things e.g a stan base twitter account telling you to kill yourself. By today's standard of what's politically correct this would be considered bullying. There's no large scale proof whatsoever bullying's got worse. I agree people are nasty on the internet, but can you really consider that bullying? Unless they're constantly pestering you after you have blocked them and/or interfering with your real social life, it isn't bullying.

there is laws, it's considered a crime here in Canada. The police officer will come to your school, you'll get suspended instead of jailtime and get a talking to.

people who get offended bcs some stranger said some nasty **** over internet are very "special people"... like just don't care... real life is different but hey you need to learn to overcome all that **** (I'm not talking about physical abuse, that **** should be reported)...

A law? Please, schools don't even want to follow their own guidelines to reprimand their students when it comes to bullying. They would avoid it at any cost in order to not tarnish their school's reputation.

While I agree that bullying has the potential to build character, not all kids are crafted the same and not all kids have support back at home. People are underestimating the effects of verbal/cyber bullying compared to the traditional physical bullying because it "seems" it's less dangerous. These make up the core of the issue.

It has definitely gotten worse. Because of the uprising of the Internet and social media, bullies now have 24/7 access to their victims. In the past, before the rise of technology, kids could go home in peace and find some solace in their home. Now, people can be attacked whenever the bully chooses to. The Internet gives them direct access. Have bullies gotten meaner? Not necessarily. They're just now more equipped to be more cruel, more easily. So, in a sense, yes it has most definitely gotten worse.

And to those saying bullying builds character, it did for me, so I see why some people make the argument. But, my thing is, I wouldn't wish away my experiences of being bullied from my life. However, I wouldn't wish them upon anyone else. Life is hard enough as it is and simply saying "it'll build character" when many people lose the fight to bullying and ultimately take their lives because of it, is unacceptable. That risk makes that contention moot, and simply an excuse for people to not be bothered with the issue.

When it's a stranger, it's typically not considered bullying. Cyber-bullying would be when someone from school attacks you from the Internet, NOT some troll on ATRL calling you an idiot.

Let's take a step OUTSIDE the stan world and look at some bullying in real-life situations.

It has gotten worse and it's not always as petty as somebody making fun of another artist.

What I'm talking about is young people in high school going on facebook/twitter/instagram and spreading rumors, talking ****, and just being flat out mean to other people their age. It's definitely gotten worse and made it easier for people to chime in.

For example, there's a girl from my high school who was constantly bullied in and outside of school for being overweight and everybody would call her ugly. Well one day at school, she tripped, flipped over the fence and face planted into the nearby bushes. Her shirt then flew up, exposing her body. As this poor girl struggled to get up, all nearby kids pulled out their camera phones and started taking pictures. Within an hour, this poor girl was all over twitter and instagram and everybody was sharing the pic with one another.

Do you see how technology has made bullying so much more easy for more people to chime in?

The only way that would work is if they made cruelty illegal.

The bullying has gotten worse, it's just that it's getting more coverage nowadays and also people are more sensitive and lack of confidence.
