The whole reason it sold so much is because of the "surprise" release.

No one is discrediting anything. If you bothered to read through the thread you will see that most people, including me, have complimented Beyoncé on her (obviously) impressive sales. The question is whether she would have broken the record had she had a full week of sales and released her album to all retailers. If anything, people were trying to discredit Britney's record by saying Beyoncé could have easily broken it with a full week of sales, but I digress.

No. If it was released traditionally and physical copies were available, the album would have leaked before the release date. Thus, taking the surprise factor out. Obviously if she was given a full week she would have had bigger first week sales, but even then I don't she could have broke Britney's record.

And I'm not sure why this thread was reported. I feel that the question is a fair question to ask considering so many people have said that Beyoncé would have broken the record.

It took beyonce 17 days to sell the same amount as Oops! debut week so nope. If she had a traditional release then she would have debuted with even less, probably around 350k - still great numbers of course. Anyway my answer to your question is no.

I'm pretty sure the hive was just exited and thankful for the album and did not care about a sales record, especially when people said the album wasn't going to sell a lot when it was first released.
